A Deadly Problem

Statistics show that every 20 minutes a driver is involved in an alcohol-related accident. Alcohol contributes to more than half of all traffic fatalities and claims about 25,000 lives each year on American roads.

For all Americans between the ages of 5 and 35, vehicle accidents are the number one cause of death. Over 50% of these deaths are caused by drunken drivers, or drivers who are under the influence of drugs.

The Township of Rochelle Park Police Department is diligent in its enforcement of drinking and driving laws, and participates in a DWI task force in cooperation with the Bergen County Prosecutorís Office. In addition to the police departmentís roving patrol, they also set up check points from time to time, in an effort to discourage drivers from driving while intoxicated, whether from alcohol or drugs. The average drunk driver who is arrested has a .20 blood alcohol concentration level-double the level of intoxication permitted in New Jersey.
